Pinoy Barbecue Meatballs

Meatball
 2 tbsp butter
 1 tbsp oil
 1 medium white onion
 2 tbsp garlicminced
 6 loaf bread sliceschopped
 ½ cup milk
 250 g ground beef
 250 g ground pork
 saltto taste
 ground black pepperto taste
Barbecue Sauce
 ½ cup soy sauce
 ¼ cup oyster sauce
 34 calamansi
  cup white vinegar
 ½ cup banana ketchup
 2 tbsp garlicfinely minced
 1 cup lemon/lime soda(Sprite or 7Up)
  cup brown sugar
 saltto taste
 1 tbsp ground black pepper
Sauté onions

In a pan over medium heat, melt the butter and oil together then add the minced white onion. Cook until the onion caramelizes, season with salt and pepper. Set aside to cool.

Soak bread

In a bowl, combine chopped bread and milk. Mix well and allow to soak for about 5 minutes.

Prepare meat mixture

To the same bowl, add pork, beef, caramelized onions, and onions. Season well with salt and pepper and mix well. Leave to marinate for at least 20 minutes so that the flavors develop.

Prepare meatballs

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Form meatballs that are about 2 tablespoons in size and place onto a greased baking sheet.

Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 18 – 20 minutes, until cooked through.

Make sauce

In a wide and deep pan over medium heat, add soy sauce, oyster sauce, calamansi juice, vinegar, banana ketchup, garlic, lemon-lime soda, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined and bring to a boil.
Bring the sauce to a boil then lower temperature. Cook until thickened to a syrupy consistency.

Braise meatballs

Add baked meatballs into the sauce and allow them to simmer in the sauce for 5 minutes on low heat before serving.
