Fried Halo-halo

Crazy for halo-halo? Here’s a unique twist to your usual cold treat—deep fry it! It adds a different dimension and mouthfeel to your favorite local dessert but same familiar flavors minus the ice!

 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
 3 puff pastry sheet sheets
 4 boiled saba bananas
 6 tbsp ube haleya
 1 llanera leche flan
 6 tbsp sweet beans
 6 tbsp sweetened langka
 6 tbsp macapuno
 2 egg whites
 cooking oilfor deep-frying
 ½ cup cooked sago
 3 scoops ube ice cream
 3 tsp toasted pinipig

Spread a puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Top it with boiled saba, sweet beans, langka, macapuno, and sweet beans.

Brush sides of the pastry with egg whites. Carefully fold the pastry to cover your filling, and press the edges together.

In a heated deep pan with hot cooking oil, deep fry pastries until golden brown. Drain in paper towels.

Let cool for 3 to 5 minutes. Top with ube ice cream, sago, and pinipig.
