During the height of the pandemic, several quarantine kitchens opened to cook specialty food that people craved when restaurants were not allowed to open yet. One successful business took Instagram by storm with its strong and consistent online marketing, relatable and fun otaku-led branding, and yes, Japanese dishes that actually taste the same as they are seen in photos—mouth-watering, flavorful, and umami-laden with every spoonful.

After several pop-ups, many features, and many, many gyudon trays later, Kodawari is now opening its first brick-and-mortar store in Makati. Located in Salcedo Village, the store will have its soft opening on March 12 and will be open on a first come, first serve basis. While the space is admittedly tight, fur parents would be happy to know that the place is pet-friendly and can accommodate small pets inside while customers with big pets will be asked to be seated outside.
For now, the restaurant will be focused on serving dine-in customers with food tray orders still relegated to their Brixton Commissary in Pasig and Banilad, Cebu.

Kodawari has yet to release its menu for its first branch, however, we’d be just as happy if their signature items like the Gyudon (marinated beef strips, 63° egg, fried talbos ng kamote, a sweet soy-based sauce, Japanese rice) and Shroomdon (four kinds of mushrooms, 63° egg, talbos ng kamote, Japanese rice) will now be available in individual servings as well as new items to try.
Kodawari’s Dine-In Store is located at G/F, Adamson Centre, 121 LP Leviste Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City. It will be open from 11:00AM – 9:00PM.
