Spread the love

It’s no wonder why people have been switching to drinking green tea (specifically matcha) rather than their usual coffee. Matcha is healthier, has a unique taste, and is Instagrammable, too. This is why more shops offering matcha drinks and delicacies have been popping up across Metro Manila.

If you’re one of the folks who enjoy matcha’s earthy-sweet flavor, then you must visit these places (or at least give them a chance).

The Matcha Tokyo (BGC, Quezon City)

Considerably one of the most authentic matcha in Manila, The Matcha Tokyo originated in Japan and offers a variety of green tea-based drinks and pastries. Only one year after opening its first-ever branch in the Philippines at Mitsukoshi Mall, BGC, The Matcha Tokyo launched its second branch at Gateway Mall, Quezon City, last January – a testament to the growing interest of Filipinos in anything matcha. Also, their Matcha Latte Float with Soft Serve is definitely a must-try!

Chotto Matcha (Makati)

Sipping matcha for a cause– this is the goal of Chotto Matcha, a cafe that aims to support Japanese tea farmers who suffered during the pandemic. They opened last November 2023 and since then have been offering genuine flavors of Japan’s finest green tea leaves through their drinks. First-time and expert matcha drinkers alike should try their best-selling Local Matcha Latte!

Tsujiri (Pasay, Makati, Pasig, BGC)

Well-known and well-loved by matcha enthusiasts, Tsujiri originated from Uji Kyoto, Japan, and has been sharing the green goodness worldwide since 2010. Aside from its authentic matcha-based drinks, it also prides itself on its exquisite selection of desserts, like the Matcha Nama Chocolate and Tsujiri Sundae.

Aichi Cafe (Quezon City)

This cute Japanese-style neighborhood cafe is smaller in comparison but can absolutely compete with others in this list in terms of taste. Aichi Cafe specializes in serving mouth-watering mochis, soft-serve ice cream, and delicious matcha and coffee drinks. Their masterpiece? A perfect combination of two equally sweet desserts – the Mochi Soft Serve Ice Cream in Matcha.

Nomi Matcha (BGC, Pasig)

For those on a strict diet, Nomi Matcha and Acai is your go-to place for all things healthy with just the right amount of sweets to treat yourself. All their matcha products come from the finest green tea leaves in Kyoto, which proves the quality and authenticity of their drinks and desserts. If you are looking for something less creamy and more fruity, then their Matcha Enhancers are a perfect match-a!

Omotesando Koffee (Makati)

This is an exception on the list since Omotesando Koffee mainly serves coffee, but their matcha latte deserves at least a spot on this list. Crafted from organic Kyoto green tea leaves, their matcha leaves a satisfying milky and bitter taste. Plus, the minimalist interior reminiscent of Japan makes the drink 10 times better.

Niseko Coffee (Manila)

We know this is another coffee place, but we just cannot resist Niseko Coffee’s matcha lattes! Using Kurasu Kyoto’s ceremonial-grade matcha powder, their drinks are undoubtedly pure quality and authentic. You can also request an unsweetened matcha drink to fully savor the earthy flavor!

Matcha Mama (BGC)

Another newly opened haven for matcha lovers in Mitsukoshi Mall, BGC, is Matcha Mama, a place known for its pretty matcha-in-a-bottle. Dedicated to immersing patrons in Japanese culture, their tea-tasting workshops and ceramics painting classes set them apart from your usual matcha cafes. Aside from matcha, they also offer different kinds of green tea drinks like hojicha, genmaicha, and sencha, which are imported from Uji, Japan.
