Flexitarian Diet

Let’s kick things off with the easiest-to-follow diet on our list. The “Flexitarian” Diet is a combination of two words: flexible and vegetarian. It literally means a flexible vegetarian since this diet is about the consumption of plant-based food while allowing meat and dairy products to be consumed in moderation. There is very little restriction in this diet that’s why you’ll be able to focus more on making healthy food choices rather than focusing on the things you can’t eat. If you’re not ready to go for a big change yet, then this is the option for you.

Food you are allowed to eat: Fish, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, lean meat, and dairy in moderation.

Food you’re not allowed to eat: None! All you have to do is limit the intake of meat, dairy and sugary food.

Paleo Diet

The Paleo diet is an eating plan based on the food our ancestors hunted, gathered, and harvested during the Paleolithic era. Since scientists cannot specifically tell what our ancestors ate, The Paleo diet mostly consisted of whole foods which are food with no artificial additives and was not artificially processed. The idea behind this diet is that our body hasn’t adjusted to the changes in farming and modern food which contributes to obesity and cardiovascular diseases however Paleo has evolved through the years and is now incorporating modern food into their plans. The short-term benefits of eating like a caveman are that you’ll manage your weight loss, blood pressure, and cholesterol. There are also studies that Paleo helps reduce the risk of heart disease.
 
The food you are allowed to eat: Vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, eggs, lean meats, and fish.

Food you’re not allowed to eat: Dairy products, grains, high processed food, refined and added sugar.

Vegan Diet

Vegan is the most extreme form of vegetarianism as it practices complete exclusion of animal products. Vegan can be classified as more of a lifestyle than a diet since vegans abstain from using consumer products that have anything to do with animals. vegans majority eat fruits and vegetables while getting a chuck of their protein from seeds, nuts and tofu. A lot of people nowadays are practicing Veganism because of their religion, political beliefs, and also advocacy for animal rights. There are studies that are saying veganism is a healthy diet however one of the main concerns is that if done incorrectly it may lead to malnutrition. If you’ve been practicing vegetarianism for quite some time now and would like to up the notch, going vegan might the next challenge for you.

KETO Diet

We’re going from a diet that eats purely vegetables and fruit to a diet that encourages the consumption of meat.  Ketogenic or “Keto” is a low-carb diet that majority gets its calories from proteins and fats rather than carbohydrates. Keto is claimed to be good for weight loss, lowers the risk of heart disease, lower blood sugar level, and helps control seizure for epilepsy. surprising but true. A meal plan that allows fatty food like crispy pata, bacon and steak? This diet might sound easy and dream come true but be sure to check with your doctor or dietician before doing it to have information on how to do it properly.

The food you are allowed to eat: Meat, poultry, seafood, nuts, oils, cheese, milk and high-fat fruit like avocado.

Food you’re not allowed to eat: Bread, rice, pasta, honey, sugar drinks and food, refined carbs, and starchy vegetables like potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Atkins Diet

Atkins is very similar to Keto but the main difference is that Atkins is less restrictive when it comes to carbohydrate intake than Keto. Atkins flexibility in carb intake makes it easier to follow and allows other vegetables and fruits to be part of the diet. The allowed calories coming from proteins are also one of the main differences between Atkins and Keto. Keto only allows 20% calories from protein while Atkins Diet allows 30% calories from protein. Regarding health benefits, Atkins and Keto have the same benefits since they are both a low-carb diet. We can’t honestly say which one is better but when you’re looking into trying a low-carb diet with more allowance, starting with Atkins Diet might be a better idea.

MIND Diet

The brain is a crucial part of our body that’s why it’s important we take care of it. Positive thinking and not stressing about the small stuff is one way of keeping our brain and mind on it’s top form however having a great diet helps is a bit more. MIND is an abbreviation for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. This diet is a combination of the Mediterranean and Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension(DASH). MIND does not restrict any food but it has guidelines on what food you should consume more and what food to limit. Minds have been found to help lower the risk of Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases plus it also improves cognitive function. If you’re looking for a holistic diet that will help your body and brain then MIND might be your choice for this year’s diet plan.
