4 Ways Homemade Chips

DIFFICULTY: Easy

Makes 12 servings
Preparation and cooking time: 1 hour


Ingredients:

Banana Chips:
6 pieces raw saba bananas
Oil, for Frying
1 cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons water

Kamote Chips:
3 pieces kamote, peeled
2 cups cold water
1/8 cup Salt
Oil, for frying

Gabi Chips:
2 large pieces gabi
2 cups cold water
1/8 cup Salt
Oil, for frying

Spam Chips:
1 can Spam
Oil, for Frying

Procedure:

Banana Chips:
1. Peel and slice bananas into long strips using a knife.
2. Deep fry banana slices until the bubbles die down. Place in a rack to drain excess oil
3. In a separate pan, combine sugar, salt and water over medium heat until a thin syrup forms. Toss in the fried banana slices until everything is well coated.
4. Transfer bananas on a rack to dry.
5. Serve with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds.

Kamote Chips:
1. Thinly slice kamote using a mandolin or knife.
2. In a bowl, mix together salt and water until fully dissolved.
3. Soak kamote slices in salt solution for at least 1 hour. Rinse slices well in running water, about three times. Drain and pat dry.
4. Deep fry, stirring constantly until the chips turn golden and slightly dark around the edges.
5. Drain excess oil.
6. Serve with salt to taste.

Gabi Chips:
1. Peel and thinly slice gabi using a mandolin or knife.
2. In a bowl, mix together salt and water until fully dissolved.
3. Soak gabi slices in salt solution for at least 1 hour. Rinse slices well in running water, about three times. Drain and pat dry.
4. Deep fry, stirring constantly until the chips turn golden and slightly dark around the edges.
5. Drain excess oil.
6. Serve with salt to taste.

Spam Chips:
1. Slice Spam into thin slices.
2. Deep fry in a pan for a few minutes until slightly browned.
3. Drain excess oil.
4. Serve with your favorite dip.
